We are delighted to reveal the DEBUT release in our brand new ‘Producers Spotlight’ series, launched to celebrate the music makers who have contributed so much to the High Focus canon over the years. From the boom bap stalwarts, to the left-field trailblazers; the ‘HF_PS’ series shines a light on both original and classic works across instrumental LPs, beat breakdown videos and, for the first time, a series of curated sample / drum packs offering up access to the classic sounds that have shaped the HF sound over the years.

PS_01 features the artist formerly known as Chemo / Telemachus, now Forest DLG; a pivotal figure in the scene since the early noughties and an absolute monster behind the boards. Combining supreme technical nous with an enviable cultural palette, Forest DLG has traveled the globe, sourcing inspiration (and instruments) to add to his signature dystopian gloom.

Forest DLG may well have collaborated with every single member of the HF roster in one way or another over the years. Highlights include; 3 x full length albums with Jam Baxter; ‘So We Ate Them Whole’, ‘Mansion 38’ and ‘Touching Scenes’, the seminal ‘Voices from Planet Cattele’ with Onoe Caponoe, as well as mixing and mastering the vast majority of the HF catalogue.

Taking influence from the likes of Curtis Mayfield and DJ Shadow, ‘I Been Surfing On A Marshmallow’ offers up a unique blend of soul, funk, and hip hop (with a touch of psychedelia sprinkled throughout).

Inspired by Forest DLG’s surfing adventures in a remote part of Indonesia, the music captures the feeling of dozing off in the back of a slow-moving pickup truck, taking in the sights and sounds of the countryside.
