SVC/Kennametal to host Lean Manufacturing seminar
An exciting seminar introducing Lean Manufacturing philosophies and
techniques will be offered locally by the Saint Vincent College Small Business
Development Center and Kennametal, Inc. The two-day event will be held on
Thursday and Friday, Oct. 3 and 4 on the Saint Vincent campus. The forum
will include thought provoking, dynamic presentations by internationally
recognized consulting group High-Focused Improvement, Inc., complemented
by Kennametal Inc.ís own in-house lean manufacturing experts. An optional onsite
visit to a local Kennametal facility that is currently implementing Lean
practices will also be conducted.
The essence of Lean Manufacturing is to compress time from the receipt of an
order all the way through the receipt of payment for that order. The results of
time compression are greater productivity, lower cost, improved quality and
increased customer satisfaction. Businesses will learn how to select projects and
methods appropriate to the current state of their organization, how to support
these projects to make them successful, and how to adapt their organizationís
structure to a new situation. Participants will also have the opportunity to
participate in group simulations and exercises that will enable them to transfer
top business solutions to their organization. The event will conclude with an
optional site visit to Kennametal on the afternoon of October 4.
The event is designed for companies seeking to develop an integrated, mainstream
approach to their operations. Within these companies, those encouraged
to attend include executives, vice presidents of operations, controllers, general,
plant and middle managers, shop floor teams, team leaders, production managers,
production teams, as well as engineers and technicians. Small company
owners and presidents are also urged to attend.
The
Kennametal Inc. Lean Manufacturing Seminar is sponsored by theSaint Vincent College Small Business Development Center in conjunction with
the Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics, and Government. The fee
for the event is $299, which includes program materials, continental breakfast and
lunch for the two days, a network reception on Thursday evening, and transportation
to the on-site visit if requested.
